Ondo Police Arrest Kidnapper While Withdrawing Ransom At POS Stand

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper while he was trying to withdraw his illegal proceed at a Point of Sale stand.

It was learnt that the kidnapper had demanded a ransom of N50 million to release a six-year-old girl he abducted in her mother’s car at a groceries shop in Akure, the capital of the state.

The incident was said to have happened on December 21, 2022, at 9.00 p:m

In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, on Saturday the mother of the abducted girl, Mrs Chukwu-Ezedima, reported the development to the police.

The police spokesperson told newsmen that operatives of the Command arrested the suspect on Dec. 31, 2022 at a POS stand while trying to withdraw part of the money that was paid as ransom.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the offence, while the victim was rescued unhurt.

“The suspect will soon be arraigned in court,” the police spokesperson said.

Also, the Police spokesperson said the Nigerian Army has handed over a man arrested in unlawful possession of firearms to the police.

Odunlami-Omisanya said that a patrol of the Nigerian Army while on routine check at Elegbeka in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, got information about the man (name withheld) allegedly in possession of a revolver.

During the investigation, the spokesperson said “the suspect initially claimed he found the gun on a farmland, but later confessed that the gun was given to him by a welder (names withheld) currently in a Correctional Centre in Okene.

“The suspect has been handed over to the Police and would soon have his day in court.”
