UGM: Ebubeagu, Soldiers Kill YPP Ward Chairman In Imo

Comrade David Uche, the chairman of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ibeme ward, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, has been killed by operatives of the South-East security outfit, Ebubeagu.

Uche was shot dead by the officials during a raid of his house on Wednesday around 7:30 am.

Ebubeagu operatives were said to have been joined by some personnel of the Nigerian Army to carryout the operation.

Uche was reportedly shot three times at the head and chest before the officials allegedly took his body to Federal Medical Centre mortuary Owerri (FMC) where they tagged him an “unknown gunman.”

According to people who witnessed the incident, the assailants drove a Sienna and a Lexus 300 jeep.

The assailants were hired by a man who came to settle a score with the deceased over an N100,000 debt he failed to repay, an eyewitness spoke to some journalists in Owerri, Imo State capital disclosed.

Confirming the incident, the State Chairman of YPP, Victor Diala, who spoke to journalists in Owerri, condemned the unprovoked killing of the party chieftain.

The party leader also called on the Imo State Government and the security agencies to make sure the perpetrators of the act are punished.

He said, “It happened. The young man was shot right in front of his house. The funny thing is that they took his body to Federal Medical Centre, Owerri (FMC) where they tagged it ‘unknown gunman’.

All efforts to speak with the Imo Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Michael Abattam, were unsuccessful as he could not answer his calls or respond to a text message.
