The Edo State Police Command says its operatives have neutralised a notorious armed robber in Benin City, the state capital.
A statement issued by Ms Jennifer Iwegbu, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer in the State, said operatives attached to Ugbor Divisional Headquarters neutralised the suspect on Tuesday morning.
She said the Divisional Police officer in charge of Ugbor Division received a distress call at about 4:45am that there was an armed robbery operation ongoing along the Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University.
Iwegbu added that the assailants, on sighting the police operatives led by the DPO in charge of the police division, engaged them in a gun duel, adding that the police operatives overpowered the suspects, killed one of them, and recovered some items, including a pump-action gun and five live cartridges.

The statement read: “In its unrelenting efforts to stem the increasing rate of armed robbery and other vices in the state, Operatives of Edo state police command, attached to its Ugbor divisional headquarters on 12/07/2022, at about 0445hrs, neutralised an armed robbery suspect.
“Following a distress call to the Divisional Police officer in charge of Ugbor division at about 0445hrs of 12/07/2022, that there was an ongoing armed robbery operation along Abuja quarters by Benson Idahosa University, Ugbor G.R.A, Benin-city, the DPO personally led operatives to the scene with the aim to arrest the suspects.
“On arrival at the scene, the suspects sighting the police operatives, engaged them in a gun duel. However, the superior firepower from the police operatives neutralised one of the suspected armed robbers.
“Items recovered from the Suspect include one pump action gun and 5 live cartridges.
“Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing gang members.”
