Sexual Assault: Govt Suspends School Principal In Katsina

Following allegations of sexual assault against a female student, Lawal Ibrahim, the Principal of Government Day School in Dantankari, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, has been suspended.

Ibrahim’s suspension was approved by the state governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the secondary school principal was suspended after a report was filed detailing the alleged incident.

Reacting to the allegation, the Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Aliyu Yar’adua, disclosed that the governor ordered an intense investigation to unravel the reality.

Governor Radda reportedly handed the case to the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education in the case.

Additionally, an inquiry into the Dandume Police Officer, DPO, has been initiated due to allegations of accepting gratification related to the case.

The state’s police command has confirmed their awareness of the allegations against the DPO and assured that investigations are underway.

“His Excellency, the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has received a report on allegations of sexual assault against Lawal Ibrahim, a Ministry of Education staff member, who was then the principal of Government Day Secondary School, Dantankari, in Dandume Local Government Area, involving a female student of the same school.

“In consequence thereof, the Governor directed as follows: The Honourable Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education to immediately suspend the said Lawal Ibrahim and investigate the allegation promptly, take appropriate action, and report back to the Governor.”

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of 15 suspected members of Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed wing of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

This was disclosed on Friday in a statement issued by the command spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye.

Okoye said the arrest came after confessions by some members of the group earlier arrested by the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

According to him, the squad led by CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa arrested the 15 suspects at their hideouts in Obiangwu and Logara Forests in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of the state in a follow-up operation.

He said an AK-47 riffle loaded with 21 rounds of live ammunition, three rounds of live ammunition, illicit drugs, charms, one cut-to-size double barrel shotgun, and four locally made shotguns were recovered from the suspects.

“One militia camouflage T-Shirt, one Improvised Explosive Device, one guinea fowl with fetish items on it, one POS machine used in extorting money from their victims and various denominations of Biafra currency were equally recovered,” he said.
