Three killed in ghastly auto crash

Three persons were reportedly killed on Friday along the Okordia-Zarama axis of the Bayelsa State stretch of the East-West road.

Nigeriacrime.com gathered that the incident, which occurred in the afternoon, a few kilometers from the crowded Zarama market end, reportedly triggered pandemonium in the area.

A green-coloured Mercedes Benz jeep was said to have crushed a commercial tricycle popularly known as Keke Napep with registration KMT346VP and killed three persons on board.

It was however learned that the driver of the SUV, fled the scene to avoid mob action.

According to a source, a male and two females were crushed to death in the tragic accident.

Another person was rescued and reported to be in critical condition.

Some policemen and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, were said to have attributed the cause of the accident to overspeeding and loss of control.

Those injured were taken to Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital, Okolobiri and the corpses of the deceased were deposited at the Christian Gate Mortuary, Amassoma Road.

In a related development, three persons have been confirmed dead, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving a Sino truck and a Toyota car at Saapade on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, said the accident occurred at 6: 25pm Saturday evening.

Okpe said the crash involved a Toyota car with registration number KSF122 FB and a Sino truck marked FZE 840 G.

The FRSC spokesperson explained that the incident was caused by excessive speed on the part of the Toyota car driver, which led to the loss of control and ramming into the moving truck from the rear.

”A total of five persons were involved which comprised of four men and one woman, two persons sustained injury, while three death were recorded,” she said.

Okpe stated that the injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for medical attention, while the deceased were deposited at FOS Morgue, Ipara in Remo North local government area of Ogun state.

Meanwhile, the State Sector Commander of FRSC, Ahmed Umar has sympathised with the family of the victims.

Umar reiterated on dangers of excessive speed especially during the rainy season where visibility is poor, advising motorists to drive defensively and obey traffic rules and regulations.
