Village Head Murder: Niger Govt Imposes 12-Hour Curfew

The Niger State Government has imposed a curfew on Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area of the state over the murder of a village head.

It was learnt that the state governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, ordered a dusk-to-dawn curfew after a violent clash led to the death of the village head, identified as Mohammed Abdulsafur.

The development was passed down by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Matane, in a statement he shared with journalists in Minna, the state, capital on Sunday.

NIGERIACRIME gathered that the village head of Lambata was reportedly murdered by some hoodlums on Saturday during a violent clash.

According to the statement, the governor directed that a curfew be imposed on the town from 6.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m, beginning from Sunday, till further notice.

He said that the imposition of the curfew was to assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation, save lives, and restore law and order.

According to him, “Government has condemned in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that have occurred in Lambata Town.”

The state government called on the residents of the area to cooperate with the security agents in the urgent task of restoring peace in Lambata, while urging security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew, the statement added.
