Herdsmen kill couple, daughter in Benue community

Suspected armed herdsmen have killed a couple identified as Clement Ukertor, his wife Christiana Ukertor and their 17-year-old daughter, Dooyum.

The trio were reportedly murdered on their farm in Yelewata in Guma Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

NigeriaCrime.com learned that aside from the murdered trio the marauders also inflicted severe machete injury on their 20-year-old daughter, Blessing, who is fighting for her life in the hospital.

Confirming the attack, the Principal Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue state on Project Monitoring, Frank Utoo, said the remains of Dooyum who was with her parents on the farm at the time of the attack and who was thought to have survived, was found dead Wednesday in the bush.

He said, “Dooyum was killed in the attack, and Blessing who also was on the farm at the time of the attack was lucky to have survived with deep matchet cuts all over her body.

“She is hospitalised and is yet to find out that her dad, mom and sister are all dead as a result of the attack on their farms.

“She is just a secondary school graduate and the family has been thriving and toiling very hard to sponsor her education further. Now this dream seems to have met a stalemate. This is the Nigeria we live in today, where dreams are killed in the same manner lives are taken.

“I have just visited her in the hospital in the company of our beloved and dedicated Rev. Fr. William Shom of the St. Joseph Catholic mission Yelewata. I was able to offset part of her bills. She needs support.

Crying over the daily killings of innocent, tax-paying Nigerians in my village and my local government, State and other parts of the nation has dried up the tears in my glands already.

“Now, these fatalities which are constantly visited on our people by expansionists, invaders and herdsmen terrorists are the key issues. Absolutely nothing is more fundamental than these.

Government exists primarily that we may live. We must live to discuss other issues, this is terrible,” he said.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent, SP, Catherine Anene said she was yet to receive details of the incident.
